King Tours Kennebec Technologies

Applauds Company for Innovative Strategies

AUGUSTA, Maine -- Today, U.S. Senator Angus King (I-Maine) traveled to Augusta where he toured Kennebec Technologies, a manufacturer of high-precision machine products that supports more than 65 jobs in the area. Led by President and CEO, Charles “Wick” Johnson on his tour, Senator King surveyed the production floor, met with employees, and learned about the innovative strategies that underpin the company’s sustained growth even while much of the country’s manufacturing sector has struggled in recent years.

“Kennebec Technologies is a model for manufacturing success in the 21st century,” Senator King said. “They promote innovation, constantly reevaluate their business model, create a work environment that is supportive of their employees, and always search for a better, more efficient way forward.

That type of flexibility allows them to meet the ever-changing needs of their customers in today’s globalized economy, and simply put, can serve as a blueprint for revitalizing American manufacturing and putting more people to work.”

Kennebec Technologies strives to improve efficiency through advanced manufacturing technologies and innovative production methods, investing in cutting-edge equipment, systems, and talent that shorten the supply chain and tighten delivery schedules.

The company also fosters an environment that encourages skills and knowledge development, growth, and ingenuity among its employees because continued learning allows the company to stay current with ever-evolving technologies. For its innovative business model, Kennebec Technologies was named the 2013 Manufacturer of the Year by the Maine Manufacturing Extension Partnership.

Senator King has called for a greater investment in American manufacturing. He is a cosponsor of bipartisan legislation that would help jumpstart innovation and promote manufacturing across Maine and the country.

The Revitalize American Manufacturing and Innovation Act of 2013 would establish a network of industry-led manufacturing institutes to help bridge the gap between research and development and improve access to cutting-edge equipment and capabilities.
