KENNEBEC TECHNOLOGIES -- Beyond Precision Machining

Three New Vertical Mills Go Online to
Increase Capacity and Further Lean Goals

February 2011

As part of our ongoing acquisition of advanced technology and in response to continued high demand from customers, Kennebec has added three new Fanuc Robodrill vertical mills. The “Space Saver Mill” was added to a two-lathe cell to add “make complete” capability to the cell. The two larger mills have upgraded the capability of a long-running high-volume production cell. These investments will help us meet our customers’ requirements for quality, price and delivery.

Also, as part of our evolution toward make-complete cells and equipment, we’re finalizing plans for a major plant expansion in the spring of 2011 that will effectively double our production space. Additional space will allow us to dedicate capacity and configure new manufacturing cells to increase efficiency and optimize production flow as we continue to grow.

In the 4th quarter of 2010, along with the three Robodrills, Kennebec added a dedicated Kiwa Horizontal Machining Center, a fully programmable Speroni MAGIS 40 tool pre-setter, an additional computerized tool cabinet and an Amada HA250 cut-off saw. Kennebec President, Charles “Wick” Johnson says, "These investments are essential components of the expansion we’re engaged in to increase our capacity and meet growing customer demand."
